I met Russell when he came to my house to have his portrait taken. We connected on many levels, with one being music. I went down to the Sarasota Farmers Market to make video and photographs of Russell and this video is the result of that time. I wanted to have Russell’s music in the background as I photographed people’s reaction to him. Russell is at the Farmers Market about once a month and if you are in Sarasota, you can see and hear him at The Cottage in Siesta Village on Wednesday and Sunday Evenings. Sarasota Portraits
Two days ago Mari and I celebrated two years plus one month in Sarasota and one year in our wonderful home on Phillippi Creek. For my photography profession the move from Boston has been a bit of a shock. In Boston I had a 35 year reputation and a wonderful studio. In Sarasota I am just another “guy” with a camera.
To kick start my portrait work here in Sarasota, I place an ad in a newsletter offering free portraits at my home on Phillippi Creek. A number of people responded and I have posted some samples of the portraits we made together here in my scaled down studio in my home. Maggie, Lorna & Tony
I met Maggie, Lorna & Tony through Debbie (my sister-in-law) who had been dog sitting for Karen & Tim Stark. The dogs were very cooperative as long as treats were involved. The video is a homage to William Wegman who had videoed first his dog Man Ray and than later included Fay Ray.
What he did with getting them to move their heads had always tickled me and here in this video Maggie and Lorna revised the rolls of Man Ray and Fay Ray.
Maji
I met Maji many years ago up north in Boston. Maji was one of the first participants in Dance Freedom which was a dance organization begun in 1968 in Cambridge. Dance Freedom is a smoke free, alcohol free, barefoot dance environment where any kind of dance is acceptable (as long as it is non harmful).
